Discover A Timelessly Elegant Home You’ll Never Want To Leave
If you’ve got no idea what a modern interior looks like, this home may just be the best way to inspire you. There are many interior styles out there, but just one home to live in. This homeowner started with the modern style and added a touch of Victorian influence to make her home feel timelessly elegant.
Sharon got her 4-room HDB flat without flooring and doors, then started her $80,000 renovation journey that has drawn praises of admiration from her guests.
Upon collecting the keys from HDB, many excited homeowners in Singapore want to style their homes with a modern look and feel. To further define your dream home, you can consider having Victorian elements as they can make a place feel elegant. As you admire photos from this home, try to spot the artifacts that lend it the modern Victorian feel.
Using black and white for the living room helps it to pull off the modern feel. The feature wall is black, while the other walls are white to provide the contrast. The centerpieces of the living room follow the contrasting colour scheme.
You can pick a third colour, which is brown in this home, to act as the transition between the contrasting black and white.
This colour scheme runs throughout the home. In addition to the living room, the master bedroom and study room both use black and white to achieve the modern feel.
To brighten up the mood in the study, the feature wall between the study and the master bedroom is a lighter colour. This shimmering champagne laminate is from Jennings, the homeowners’ preferred choice because of their use of superior materials that do not chip easily.
Choice of Wallpaper
In the living room, using patterned wallpaper helps bring out Victorian influence. Since the wallpaper in the living room will play an important role in setting the style of your home, do pick it with clear intention on what you want yours to be.
Instead of elaborate floral patterns that traditional Victorian designs use, you may find that simpler patterns can stay true to the modern theme. As a result, the patterns you see on the wallpaper are a simplified one that brings across the elegant period just as effectively.
Other than letting you see clearly in the dark, the choice of lighting sets the mood for the modern interior style.
The first thing that catches your eye in the living room should be the chandelier that hangs from the ceiling. The intricate design of chandeliers, with their ornamental accessories will instantly make the living room feel more elegant.
By using down lights that are circular, the effect it creates is more suitable for this interior style. If lights are squarish, they will not bring out the modern feel as well.
This modern home interior uses cove lighting to enhance the length of the passageway leading to the other rooms. it creates a warm outline of the living room, and again in the study room. This helps make the space feel cosy.
Choice of Curtain
The curtains and blinds in the home also follow the colour scheme.
Blinds work well for the study room because the glass panes of the windows do not reach the floor, so blinds cover the entire length just nice. It is important for the blinds to let in natural light so people can be productive when in the study.
After spending a long day outside, the dark curtains in the master bedroom can be drawn to ensure the homeowners can rest in darkness.
The white sofa and black single armchair in the living room help to bring out the modern style for your home. The classy Winchester design of the sofas match the design of the dining chairs.
This dining table is custom built for dining after hacking away part of the kitchen wall, providing more space to sit down and enjoy a proper meal. The quartz top is easy to clean and prevent stains.
The track lights overhead can produce 2 tones of lighting. When preparing food, the lights will shine a cooler tone to see the work area better. If they are eating, the tone can become warmer at the touch of a switch. That makes the dining area feel less like an office and more like a home to relax.
The rotating TV wall has a see-through panel above it. The patterns you see help to reinforce the modern feel, without becoming a hassle for cleaning. The panel is surrounded by glass on both sides, so dust rarely gathers inside the holes.
If you want a classy master bedroom, pay attention to the headboard above the bed. It reaches all the way to the ceiling and has great aesthetic value, appearing like it’s a variation to the wall in adding a lighter touch to the black and white colour theme.
Like in the living room, consider adding brown coloured elements in the living room partition and cowhide carpet on the floor to break the monotony of black and white.
Sharon uses a post system wardrobe in her room, as her family has little need for storage. This allows her to pick her clothes easily before going out of the house, as she can see everything at a glance.
Vinyl flooring is used for all the rooms, except the living room whereby homogeneous polished marble tiles lend it a modern feel. The marble tiles make the living room look classy, but Sharon doesn’t recommend it for use in rooms. Marble tiles are affected by air conditioning and become cold to the feet when you walk about at night.
With the lovely modern interior Sharon has designed for her family, you can be sure that she’ll be spending most of her time in this timelessly elegant home.
